All That Jazz

I have always been a fan of Jazz and for as long as I can remember; I have always been a fan of Harry Connick Jr. From his numerous albums to the movies he has starred in, his career spans a good 20 years. This guy is seriously talented.

"It Had to Be You" made me fall in love with the whole idea of someone crooning in front of a Big Band and yesterday night I had the pleasure of attending a his concert with his 14 member Big Band in tow.

Listening his records is one thing, but seeing him perform live? That's a whole new experience all together.

Ever the entertainer, he had audience eating out of his hand and laughing at his jokes. Right from the get go, when he welcomed a group that arrived late for the show (How does that happen?) till the end when he was poking fun at a gentleman seated in the front row. Harry had me in stitches all night long.

Though some may say that the performance was a little short (the whole thing lasted about 90 minutes) I was one of the few members of the audience who gave him a standing ovation when he finished. I don't really think it's fair to compare last night's performance to his last performance in Malaysia. After all, there was a 30 minute intermission during his last gig here.

I had a very good time last night. ..And my feet's still tapping to the beat ;)

There are musicians and there are musicians. And then there are musicians who are performers too. Born to make music and to entertain. Sounds like Mr. Harry Connick Jr. is one of the rare few in the latter category. :)

I miss concerts like these... where it's not just music being performed, but something more... when the musician engages the audience... and creates that added bit of magic. Yeah...

He's a great entertainer. The second night lasted beyond 120 minutes. *wide grin* What I like about him is that he takes the trouble to learn about us rather than the usual "Apa khabar Malaysia" shit. hehe.

he didnt sing it had to be you. sigh, i'm not a jazz fan, so i desperately needed a stiff drink to get me into the mood. instead i drifted off to sleep. as i saw in a comic strip, jazz is to music what sushi is to food. everyone pretends to like it. OH SIUUUUUUSHEEE, how luverly!!!

but he is an A class entertainer for sure. i rarely laugh at performers jokes...

I enjoy watching him act too...first time in "Memphis Belle". It was also quite a change to see him play a psycho killer in Copycat! I got paranoid of going into public toilet cubicles after that show!
