Everything is falling into place.

When I visit the tailor to have a pair of pants made, I normally tell him I'd like the superfine 140's or 120's; and he will proceed to pass me a booklet containing numerous pieces of cloth in many different shades of colour of the said material bound together. I don't know about you guys, but it's pretty difficult to imagine how a whole pair of pants will turn out just from one tiny piece of cloth. I mean seriously, the swath of cloth is probably about 4 inches long by 2 inches wide. Thankfully I'm a boring old soul and stick to the tried and tested colours of grey, black and navy blue for men's slacks. My pants normally turn out fine.

Now imagine my quandary when asked by the contractor what colour I would like the walls of my house painted. To aid me in my decision, he passed me a pretty nifty marketing booklet with all the colours available from the agreed paint brand. The booklet is available for download here.

If you think making a pair of pants based on the colour available from booklets containing 4 by 2 inch swaths of cloth is difficult, imagine selecting a wall colour based on booklet where the sample of colour is probably 2 by 1 inch in size, on print. Now there's a lot of room for error given the amount of real estate that you have to cover!

I must have dragged Becks to numerous housing estates to look at probably a million different colour schemes. Yes, I am a fuss-pot. My aunt mentioned in passing to my mom that a house near my dad's place looked really good. So one fine evening, I dragged my mom and both of us took a walk to said house in clogs to have a look at the colour. Armed with nifty booklet in hand, I literally flipped through the pages and pressed each page against the wall to try to match the colour that was actually painted. The closest colour it seemed to match in the booklet was banana. From the tiny sample in the booklet, I chose the main exterior colour for my walls.

Turned out pretty ok, don't you think?

And that was just the outside!

Internally, I knew that I wanted the feature wall of each space to be of a different colour as opposed to the rest of the walls which will be painted white. But, how does one determine which wall of the room is actually the feature wall? An architect friend of mine said that when you enter a room/space, there will be a wall which will grab your attention first...and that's your feature wall. Sounds simple enough doesn't it? Mind you there's also a fourth wall in each room and that’s the ceiling! *ROFL*

So I spent countless hours poring over Interior Design magazines and surfed the web to look at colour schemes for walls. I finally decided to opt for the following colour schemes for the interior :D

Upstairs
Downstairs

Walls are being painted as this is typed, so I can't include pictures to show you all how it's coming along. Let's just say that the hours spent choosing the colour wasn't wasted. It's all coming together =)

If you think choosing colours for the walls are enough to drive one crazy, think again. Tiles are another thing all together! Hahaha. Size of tiles, mosaic arrangement, colour, and placement of tiles...the list seemed to go on forever!

"Better not choose to light a colour else it will be easy to tell if your toilet is dirty", said someone.

"If you don't clean it properly, dark coloured tiles will show the soap stains," said another.

Hahaha...enough to make anyone go insane.

However, I am pleased with my choice of colour, size of tiles, mosaic etc.

I can imagine taking many a shower in this space.

One more week so says the contractor.

I am just thankful that everything is coming together nicely ;) I guess the pain was really worthwhile after all.

Heh.
