Value for Money

The significant other happens to be away for a week, so I've been having dinner on my own for the past couple of days. Dinner, when alone, consists mainly of a simple meal which normally revolves around eggs.

Two of them to be exact.

Steamed, fried, hard boiled, 1/2 boiled..two eggs done in a variety of styles normally downed with a glass of milk and sometimes if I'm still feeling peckish, along with a cup of yoghurt.

Last night however, circumstances dictated that I had to have something other than eggs for dinner :) I had gone for a run at the KLCC park after work. Grabbed a quick shower, tidied up some work and headed home at about 5 minutes to eight PM.

Traffic was smooth for the better part, but as soon as I hit the Federal Highway, traffic started to build up. I decided to wing it and use the Kerinchi Link to get home.

I was tempted to turn of at Section 16 to pull over to grab a bite because by then, my tummy was beginning to rumble. Snuck a peek at the turn off and decided not to as traffic along the slip road was also pretty much stuffed up.

So I nosied on along the SPRINT to get home, only to find myself stuck in front of the bottle neck after the toll. SPRINT indeed, a Crawl seemed more apt at that time.

By the time I hit my neighbourhood at about 45 minutes past eight, my tummy was rumbling like Krakatoa before it erupted. I decided to reward myself with a decent hot meal at New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice. They recently set up shop nearby. My standard order at their establishment is a serving of plain Sa Hor Fun, a serving of Chicken Innards and a small serving of Taugeh for roughage. Washed down with a cup of Chinese Tea.

After a long day at work, being stuck in traffic and a 6.5KM run, that meal really, really hit the spot.

And it cost me all of RM7.75. Relatively cheap by today's standards. It's also about RM5 bucks less than what I would spend at my friendly neighbourhood lok-lok uncle's van as well. Lok-lok, being my favourite food group is also my source for spare-parts (read innards) when I have a craving for them. All things considered, New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice also satisfied my craving this time round. Not only that, it provided me a source of dietary fiber and was considerably cheaper as well. The chili sauce that is served at New Restaurant Ipoh Chicken Rice is also on par with that being served at the Lok-Lok van, albeit the one being served at the latter being spicier!

Hmm...

No prize for guessing where I'll end up whenever I need to satisfy my cravings from now on =)

They have been setting up everywhere. There's even an outlet in Bangsar. Since I don't like chicken rice...I might go try the sa hor fun. :)

chicken rice and lok-lok sound like a healthier option to my guilty not-a-pleasure snack sometimes while driving home! i have to fight the temptation to stop at a mcd's drive-thru near my place and pick up a big mac (or two) :D
