Heard over the news this morning on the way to work that an RM2 Billion Contract has been awarded by the government to a corporate big wig to digitize TV Signals for the remaining analogue Television transmitters. This basically covers all the "free TV" providers, namely, RTM1, RTM2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV and I believe there is a TV9 as well.
Back in the day, when TV's came with their own cabinets we used to have to search for the signals on either the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) or Very High Frequency (VHF) band. If the reception was still below par, we'd go up to the roof and adjust the antenna to get the best possible picture quality. If that fails, I use to strip the coaxial cable that plugs into the TV to remove oxidization. That normally was the last resort and also fixed most of the problems with reception.
Ever wondered why on any team sport being broadcast on TV that there are normally two jersey colours? A home and an away jersey? One would be dark and the other would be of a lighter shade? Well, TV only came in black and white during my parents time and the difference in shade was to allow the viewers to differentiate the teams.
Dad's still running a CRT TV back at his place while being subscribed to Astro HD. He plans to wait till the TV konks out before changing it to a newer digital flat screen TV. If you have ever owned a CRT TV, those things last for years on end!
They just don't built them like they used to.
Meh.

They sure don't make them like they used to. Everything's designed with built-in obsolescence in mind these days. :(
@Kenny : Tell me about it! My handphone battery failed after one year. After the warranty period expired!
I tell you it's a conspiracy - they timed it to fail exactly after the warranty period is over! :(
